Finally i got THE mail from TCMS regarding the time table and the orientation programme. Man the orientation programme lasts for a good 3 days. By the end of which i will have seen the almost all the media outlets under the tutelage of the Times Group, the largest media organisation in the country. So, its back to college for me.
Speaking of college, well, music isnt far. Somehow, college life and music have a very deep connection. My tastes in music have never been constant, they always keep changing. I may listen to bollywood one day and the next moment i might be hooked onto Kishoreda and Mukesh. I do listen to World Music once in a while if i really am in the mood. Instrumental has to have Kenny G’s saxophone or Zakir Hussains Tabla or Rahul Sharma’s magic with the Santoor. As far as genres are concerned i keep switching between pop, rock, rap, hip hop. The last two are 2 genres that i have been following for quite a few years, thanks to Eminem n co.
The Music scene in India is definitely undergoing a sea change. Rock heads, who were till now underground, are coming up with their own albums. The Rock genre isnt just the domain of long haired smoke heads anymore. Its becoming more mainstream. I started liking Rock particularly after i heard a few of Linkin Park songs, although they come under the Alternative Rock genre. But it was a start. Then i graduated to them Metallica’s, GnR’s and the likes. I will repeat, i am no Rock Head. As in i dont listen to discographies of each bands, just a few songs that i love.
The main reason behind my fascination with rock music is the Guitar. This is one instrument i really really love to hear to. I dont know the technicalities with this instrument, so i wont get into that. Drums come a close second in the rankings. These two instruments really can cover a range of emotions that in a not so subtle way, which is what keeps me going for good Rock music.
I never thought Rock music would catch up with Bollywood in a major way. ‘Rock On’, a movie starring Farhan Akhtar, Arjun Rampal, Purab Kohli and Luke Kenny, alongwith Koel Puri and newcomers Prachi Desai (who, i have to admit looks really sweet in the promos) and Shahana Goswami. This movie has a Rock band as its main theme. From what i could make out of the promos, it seems like these 4 guys have a Rock band who are a HIT with the youth. They all indeed look like rockstars in the promos. Then as this is India, life cant be one big Rock Show, so they get on with their lives, snipping off their long hair in the meanwhile. But then, they reunite. Thats bout that i could make off the promo. I cant wait to see this movie, cos it stars one of my favourite directors, Farhan Akhtar. Also he has sung most of the songs, 6 to be precise, from the movie and his voice is much better than the many crap voices we hear on the TV singing competitions. All i can say is that i cant wait to watch this flick for sure!
Heres a brief intro to the song. Notice the guitar chords in the beginning, they’ll definitely remind you of Lakshya:D
Take Care
